‘MARLENE’

A MOVIE BASED ON JULIAN SHER’S BOOK ON THE TRUSCOTT CASE

Marlene is a 2020 docudrama film, directed by Wendy Hill-Tout. Based on Julian Sher’s book, “Until you are Dead” the film tells the dramatic story of how Steven Truscott’s wife Marlene fought to clear the name of her husband who had been wrongfully convicted of murder.

The movie stars Kristin Booth as Marlene Truscott, and Greg Bryk as Steven Truscott. Ryan Northcott plays Julian Sher, who was an investigative producer with CBC’s the fifth estate.

It premiered at the 2020 Calgary International Film Festival. It was subsequently screened at the 2020 Whistler Film Festival, where it was named runner-up for the festival’s Audience Award.

The Toronto Star called it “both a detective story and romance” that shows love can conquer anything if it’s strong enough.

“A solid cast … conveys the horror of the case … and the outrage of a justice system gone wrong,” said the National Observer.
